Compare Systems Side By Side

Specifications are hard to compare when they are on four different pages in four different orders. Pick up to four systems and this puts them in one table, row by row, with every figure labelled by where it came from. It does not rank them and it does not pick a winner — which unit is right depends on your room, and that is what a survey is for.

What this tool can and cannot tell you

This compares published specifications, not suitability. Two systems with near-identical figures can suit entirely different rooms, and the row that decides it is often one no table has — where the outdoor unit can go, or whether the pipework can reach. Figures come from each manufacturer's own documentation and anything we have not been able to verify is shown as not confirmed rather than estimated. Sound figures in particular are measured under each manufacturer's own conditions and are a guide to relative quietness rather than directly comparable numbers.

How to read a comparison without being misled by it

Compare like with like

Efficiency figures only compare fairly between systems of similar capacity. A larger unit and a smaller one are not being asked the same question, so a higher number on one of them tells you very little.

Sound figures are not directly comparable

Each manufacturer measures under its own test conditions. Treat the sound rows as a guide to relative quietness rather than as numbers you can trust to the decibel between brands.

“Not confirmed” means exactly that

A blank cell would read as “none”. Where we have not been able to verify a figure against the manufacturer’s own documentation the table says so instead of estimating it. Ask and we will find it for you.

The deciding row is often not in the table

Where the outdoor unit can go, what route the pipework can take and whether the electrical supply is adequate settle more installations than any specification does — and none of them can be printed in a column.

Before you rely on this

  • This is indicative, not a specification. It is a guide to help you plan and ask better questions. It is not a design, not a quotation and not a substitute for a survey.
  • A survey is what decides. An engineer measures the things this page can only ask you to estimate, and confirms where equipment can physically go, how it will be run and what the electrical supply allows.
  • Installation and refrigerant work are regulated. Air-conditioning systems contain refrigerant under pressure and are connected to a fixed electrical supply. Installing, moving, opening, recharging or decommissioning one is work for a qualified, F-Gas registered engineer — never a DIY job.
  • We do not publish a saving. Nothing on this page claims what you would save against any other way of heating or cooling a room. What you would save depends on what you have now, how you use it and what you pay for energy, and we will not put a number on that without knowing all three.
